How Water Affects Your Health
Water is the single most important component of the human diet. The human body is composed of up to 60 percent water. It is said that each person should drink at least 3 quarts of fresh clean water per day just to maintain essential fluids. Our blood is almost 80 percent water! We know that we need to keep the bloodstream clean to stay healthy and live longer lives. Water is the natural medium by which various toxins and other undesirable substances that come from the food we eat and the air we breathe are "filtered" out of our bloodstream and our bodies. Obviously, if we drink contaminated water or chemically treated water, we are only introducing more unhealthy substances into our bodies and inhibiting the filtration process. So the cleaner the water that we drink, the better the filtration process works, and the healthier we are!

Why Natural Spring Water is Better
Water can be made "drinkable" though a variety of mechanical and/or chemical treatment processes. This means that it can be made to pass minimum drinking water standards. However, much water that is considered safe to drink by those standards still contains low levels of toxins or oxidizing metals that can lead to long term degradation of health. For instance, many municipalities are served from surface water bodies and/or wells that contain water unfit to drink unless it is treated with chlorine or other chemicals to kill off bacteria. Many residential wells may contain bacteria or other substances that may affect our health and, unfortunately, in many cases people don't even realize that the water they are drinking may be contaminated. It is always a good idea to test your water if you have a well or other private drinking water source. However, if you are unsure of the quality of your water, or if you know it isn't of the highest quality, you should consider using natural spring water as your main drinking water source.

Natural spring water is water that flows underground through materials like sand and gravel and, though natural hydraulic forces, is forced to the earth's surface. Historically, before the development of sophisticated drilling techniques and water treatment plants, these springs were prized for providing easy access to clean drinking water. Many early homes and even towns and cities grew up around good springs. Of course, water quality may vary from spring to spring, depending on the geologic setting and other factors that may affect the water as it travels underground toward the spring. Thanks to modern water quality testing techniques, it is possible to determine if a spring has high quality water in the first place. Then it is essential to protect that spring and its contributing watershed (the area from which groundwater flows to the spring) from any contamination.

Why Rainmaker Spring Water is the Best Water You Can Buy
Our goal at Rainmaker is to provide you with only water of the highest quality. Therefore, we only use spring water that is naturally clean and meets the highest water quality standards without requiring any artificial treatment. If you buy bottled water from other companies, look at the label. Some bottled water does not come from natural springs and/or is filtered or otherwise treated to make it clean enough to drink. Although this water may be safer than other sources, it is not as good as water that is naturally clean and free of even trace levels of contaminants. Total dissolved solids (TDS) is a measurement used in the spring water industry to assess the overall quality of the water. Water with a TDS value of less than 50 parts per million is considered very clean. Currently at Rainmaker, all of our sources have TDS values less than 20 ppm.

At Rainmaker, we also believe in not overtaxing a spring's groundwater supply. If water is taken for bottling, either directly from the spring or pumped out of wells installed nearby, there is always a risk of pumping too hard. This can result in long term changes in the quality of the water (for the worse) and may also cause other environmental impacts, such as damage to freshwater wetlands and streams. At our source sites, we try to take only the amount of water that would discharge from the spring naturally and we always leave enough to avoid impacting the natural habitat of the area. This involves monitoring of water levels and the surrounding environment as well as frequent monitoring of water quality in the spring. We believe that by not taking too much, we can depend on the water quality in each spring staying constant over the years, which means you can depend on the quality of our bottled water always being the best.

At Rainmaker, we also make sure that all of our sources are protected. We only use springs that are in areas away from industrial or other human activity that may impact water quality. And we require protection of the spring's watershed from future development. Most of our springs are in the hills and mountains of Maine with nothing nearby but the trees, rocks and sky. You can be certain that Rainmaker Spring Water will always be nothing but pristine, natural water of the highest quality. So drink up!
